I have had a few folks ask me about English B&Ms to visit when they come to the country, but one thing I have always forgotten to mention is the British over-the-counter pipeweeds they could sample whilst they are here. St Bruno was an instant hit with me and is a classic, British blend with a distinctive flavour. Easily available throughout the country it is one not to miss!

  • The thought of England without a tobaconist, is like England without pubs. When I was watching your other video a few minutes ago and you mentioned that the new tobacco pouches have photos on them, I thought: "these meglomaniacle egotists are treating grown up people like little children" Disgraceful. Same thing here pretty much. They all aught to be hornswaggled in tar.

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams Our governments treat us like infants and criminals whilst ruining our economies and making us pay for their mistakes. I am fed up with it. At least our new PM has pledged to repeal some of the ridiculous laws that have been enacted over the past few years in the name of 'Health and Safety'...finally a voice of sanity in Parliament? I am not holding my breath.

  • St. Bruno sounds like a tasty pipe tobacco.

    Good to see another video!

  • @bahumutx Thank you. Good to see on Pipefriend's vid too!

  • Good to see you again Jim! I can't really make up my mind about St Bruno. I love the taste and the floweryness... I get hints of blueberry in there, but it also have a harshness to it that I relate to the OTC blends we get over here. It might be the fine, almost shag-cut to them that throws my packing and puffing technique off. I've not tried the flake yet.

    Cheers,

    -Mike

  • @Flieger671 Hey Mike. I think you might be right about the blueberry! It is definitely a complex flavour that is for sure, but I know what you mean about the harshness. It can certainly go for the throat if you inhale by mistake! I find it is less abrasive if I smoke it a little moister than I normally would for that kind of cut and pack it a little tighter, but I still have to make sure I treat it delicately.

  • @NWPipeSmoker I'm not even sure where I got that word, I'm not sure what a "hornswaggle" is, but they certainly need to be done so! LOL

  • Fine, entertaining, informative review. So engaging - I just wanted to light up and continue the conversation! I regret not trying St. Bruno when I was over last year.

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams - I'm envisioning 'hornswaggling' and it isn't pretty! Good one, Kel!

  • Very true, the only pipe tobacconist nearest me is about 25 miles away in the centre of Stoke-on -Trent and it doesn't even have that good selection, so I have to use web based stores which after a lot of searching I've managed to find a handful of really excellent ones.

Other than that it’s like you said its mostly a choice of St Bruno or Condor, I've only tried Condor and I didn't like that at all but after seeing this video I shall certainly give St Bruno a try.

  • how many times aday do you smoke on average?im english by the way

  • @PipesterJim Well maybe the pendulum is swinging back the other direction as it does sometimes. I hope so. Enough of the insanity already.

    Best to you my Friend,

    Kel

  • Hey Jim, great review. Thanks for the detail on the ready rubbed vs the flake. I will have to get my hands on a packet and finally try it. Also, as you can see in my most recent video, I have begun to dedicate certain pipes to certain blends and it really improves the experience. Cheers. --GCS

  • Well done Jim - St. Bruno is by far the best over the counter blend. The other one I have occasionally is Erinmore Mixture which I also like.
