With but one rehearsal to prepare an entire program (because of budget constraints) it is quite an accomplishment that these fine musicians are able to produce such rhythmic vitality and expressive playing to the delight of their audience.
Were they in a hurry, in fear of missing the train?I don't like it, sorry. It seems that most fall into the mistake of misunderstanding who was Corelli and when and where he was writing his music and indulge to make him as 'italianate' as possibile, even to the point of forcing the 'partitura'. He is NOT Vivaldi, nor Venetian. He wrote this 100 years BEFORE, in Rome. Others force the pathetic side and exxaggerate slowness of Adagios and hast of Vivace. Disaster!
