This is the best sounding slide on Youtube. I love the functionality of pedal steels but hate their tinny metallic sound. The bar makes a difference too. Wish I could get an 8 string lap this year. Perhaps by Christmas I'll get one. I'm eager to learn. My goal is to play classical, contemporary, and jazz with one, not Hawaiian or Country. I have no clue which tuning to learn for my intended music. Do 10 string models exist? It would seem better for making more chords. 6 strings seem to limiting.

@EdwJenkins Hi Ed. I would have given anything to have met Jerry Byrd. Noticed your reference to God! It is my belief that God is the originator of all beautiful music. I recall play Hawaiian Guitar in Scotland one year and the song I played was "How Great Thou Art". I'll look out for you in heaven Ed! I am Welsh by nationality, so music is part of my make-up! Wales is known as the "Land of Song". Take care my friend and God bless you too YBR35

I like this.
Nice touch.
I just imported a George Boards 8-string to Scotland.
Previously played an old Guyatone 6.
Need to start practising !!
Tks for posting this, and I try your tuning.

That's much better and so soothing to listen to. Actually brought the great Jerry Byrd to my mind! Beautifull sound!

Wow, that's really hip. I got a set of A6 strings from steel guitar forum but the lowest string is a 50. I'm sorry to keep doing this over youtube, are you on the forum?
Thanks

Hey
Got my Dynalap, finished it but need to tweak the wiring. Mark's been great. I was playing this video on my computer, a painter in his studio next door says "hey, crank that up!" He really dug it. I have only one more question if you don't mind: what string set do you use? I'm having some trouble finding a dedicated B11 set so it must be another set tuned this way. If you don't mind....

@movievaudeville I doubt you'd find a string set for B11 tuning. The strings I use are a 10-string C6th set (Nickel wound) for pedal steel. I just omit the first string (.015) and ninth string (.054). The bottom string is .068, and the top is .014. These gauges also allow me to tune the guitar to C13th, or A6th.

Thanks, I'm making some music purchases today. And one last question (sorry!), but the finish is really nice on your instrument - what stain did you use? My wife ran a frame shop finishing her own raw-wood frames and has suggested after I sand the instrument I might seal the grain with shellac and then sand it back down before staining. Is that anything like you did?

@movievaudeville The finish is Tru-oil over shellac. TransTint red and amber for the color before finishing. You can see some better photos of it on the Dynalap website.
