English title: The Peacock Princess (1982)
Chinese title: Kong Que Gong Zhu (孔雀公主)

Starring: Tang Guoqiang & Li Xiuming

Summary:
This story came from a popular folktale of the Dai minority people of China.

Prince Zhaoshuntun runs away from his castle and encounters 7 beautiful flying maidens, of whom he falls in love with the youngest, Namunuona. They get married, but have to fight an evil wizard before living happily ever after.
This is one of my favorite chinese movies of all time & love the classic hulusi music and songs.

Subtitles from the original The Peacock Princess movie (1982).

  • I thought there was a hmong dubbed version of this movie? Does anyone know what hapened to it. if so please tell ASAP because I was pretty sure there was a hmong dubbed version but now I can't find it?

  • @onlineriderTV2013

Yep, there's actually two hmong dubbed versions. The oldest version is: Huab tais 7 leej ntxhais where I think they translated the hero's name to: Nuj Sis Loob, and the other one they kept it closer to the movie name: Zhaoshuntun. It's been a long time since I've watched the hmong dubbed versions. Not sure why it's not on yt.

Do you maybe have any clue abouthow to find the German dubbed version? I watched it in the early 90ies, I guess it got via the Russians into the GDR in the 80ies and was then shown on TV...but can't find it online anywhere.

  • @chrissielinchen

Sorry, I never knew there was a german dubbed version. I wouldn't know how to find it. Sorry again.

  • starry do you know what instrument is played in the beginning...the sound track is beautiful...soft and lovely

  • @SHINWAICHI

The instrument is a hulusi (it's what the prince plays when he's waiting for the princesses to come back and swim in the pond). I always wanted once since I was little because of this movie, so I picked one up when I was in China a couple years ago. But I have no idea how to play it...LOL.

  • This is the original. The original movie is chinese & characters speak mandarin.

The clothes look thai because the story is inspired by the Dai people of China (I guess you could say these are thai ethnic minority living in China.)

  • i used to watch this movie over and over again as a little kid! "namanuna!" lol i used to want to put flowers in my hair like hers and wanted to dance like her! and the prince is so "pretty."
