The simplicity of the lyrics is part of what makes this song so brilliant. I've never heard a more direct, sincere expression of unconditional love and compassion. Plus it's sweet and unguarded -- who on earth would call themselves the milkman of human kindness, except someone who loves you so much they don't worry about saying something stupid? Great song to sing to someone you love at 3 a.m.

Wether you have a profilic musical background or not, your opinion on music still depends on taste, and thus no opinion holds more authority than any other. Certainly not as much authority as to rightfully state that "this song is truly awfull". On the other hand, if you have no musical background, your opinion on this song is as pure as it can be. If anything, your opinion is obscured by your knowledge.
