  • The big loopy things are basically streams of plasma which usually flow from one magnetic pole to the other like rivers. The big loopy thing happens when one of them becomes too unstable and 'ruptures'. The stream of plasma then bursts to the surface, creating sunspots, flares, eruptions...

    (I didn't do the vid, I just happen to know a lot of stuff about sunspots)

    And no, the sun isn't hollow, I think it is in the vid just to simplify things.

  • Interesting images . . . but is the sun really hollow? Where's the explanation of what's happening here? {The newbie doesn't understand what those - looping gases are about.
