Before AD 360, how did they keep the calendar in sync with the solar year?

@RobertMOdell Every 11 years an additional month was added called Vey Adar. It is actually a lunar/solar calendar and was 354 days in length back then and still upheld that way until today.

How did Exodus 11 result in a change from a civil to religious calendar. That is over my head.

@RobertMOdell Exodus 12 states that "this is the beginning of months for you".... the month that they were in was Nisan. Since Nisan is when the passover was kept and was being discussed in this chapter.... Nisan was selected by G-d to be the beginning of the religious calendar. Thanks for the question.
