Why Religion Saddens Me

I clearly remember my days as a bible-thumping Jehovah's Witness; looking forward to the End of the World with ill-concealed glee. Of course there was always underlying trepidation which came from hoping that I'd done enough to be found worthy of God's salvation. But in spite of that, the end of the world was something that was vividly imaginable. Illustrations in the Watchtower literature depicted violent scenes of God's wrath dealt upon on wicked mankind, usually with a small group of happy, smiling people (Jehovah's Witnesses) simply walking away from it all. As a young, impressionable woman I could picture myself as one of those people. Someone who had been delivered from all of the world's suffering and pain, and about to embark on a historic journey to a paradise earth, just like God originally intended...

@soopinionthoughts300 I fight for the ignorant religious people to stop hurting others, all they've done is destroy and harm, and make people ignorant. I have read enough of the Bible to know that no omnipotent God wrote it or gave those men visions of what he wanted them to write, they just made up a control source, and it's worked for centuries. I am religious when it comes to other people telling me I'm going to suffer for eternity just because I love my girlfriend. No.

@Roxas131413 yep, your belief is not to believe, you fight for your belief just as any other religious person, being an adult, I ask what makes you different? A lot of people dont read the bible but make a debate about how bad it is, thats like me saying the island is a terrible place to be and cant understand why people love to go there, getting bit by sharks and jelly fish but I never been to the island in my whole life, its my opinion but people would just say I'm silly

Religious people including JW's in 'look forward to the brutal murder of billions?'Btw the allies didn't fight the Nazi's to free the Jew's! They were in fact surprised to find the atrocities! You make great points against religion,but you can make points without exaggerating.I just find so many historical but common retrospective distortion of reality regarding Nazi Germany!There are many more exaggerations.Did you free yourself from one form of propaganda to enslave yourself to your own?

As an ex JW I share you're disgust for all religion and clearly recognize it's destructiveness. I find you put off on current JW victims, what the WT is responsible for and yet you neglected to make any distinction. I had plenty of non JW relatives and never felt so morbid as you described!... We at least we 'were' victims and yet you now demonize current victims?..This goes out in a public forum. You believed it as well as I. be more responsible about not demonizing victims such as we were.
