Let's Play Star Wars: TIE Fighter

Game: TIE Fighter Collectors' CD-ROM Edition
Released: July 1995
Developer: Totally Games
Publisher: LucasArts
Platform: DOS

This is NOT the one that came 1998 with the X-Wing Collector Series, nor the one that came 1999 with the X-Wing Trilogy.

This is the Collectors' CD-ROM Edition, wich comes with 2 expansion packs; "Defender of the Empire" and "Enemies of the Empire".

So, this is me playing TIE Fighter, Collectors' CD-ROM edition. I have never completed TIE Fighter, and this game includes 2 expansion packs, so I've got a lot of surprises ahead of me. And because I'm a rookie at this game, so I don't know every bonus mission, and I probably die often, but edit the deaths out. Just say if you want to see the missions over and over again because of the deaths. I inform when I die.

And oh, this is not a complete extra ultimate edition super walkthrough, it's just me. :)

Intro and The Aftermath of Hoth #1 Briefing

Because of the 10 minute limit, these videos will come in bits and pieces. I wanted to keep the first mission intact, so this first video is a little shorter.

I'm thinking about putting a finnish commentary, and english subtitles. My spoken english is quite poor...I always have difficulties in trying to think what the next word would be in english. Writing is so much easier. :)

  • I got the CD rom dos version of this game, but it won't work with DOS box because it says that I'm installing from the hard drive (seeing as dos box makes the mounted drive the hard drive) so, what did you do to get it to work? I tried with it in the CD drive, and copied the files to my computer and tried that. what did you do to get it to work?

  • @rougeleder3 My real CD drive is F:, and it works normally in dosbox when I put MOUNT f f:\ -t cdrom

  • I had a DOS computer a LONG time ago (in a galaxy far far away... nah, jk :P) and I LOVED playing this game! But we got rid of that computer several years ago and now we have a computer from Dell. I still have the CD for this game, but each time I try to install the game, a black window pops up and it says that it's preparing to install a game, but then it goes away instantly. Does this mean I can only play the game on a DOS computer?

  • @InvisibleComedian1 It should work with DOSBox :) I can't link it, so Google it. :P

  • THRAWN?! Vice Admiral THRAWN?! Dude, I read a few books about Thrawn, after the Emperor's defeat in Episode VI of Star Wars, in the books Thrawn is a Grand Admiral.

  • @murryduck Yeah. He becomes a Grand Admiral later in the game.

  • Lucasarts was so incredible back in the 90's. Everything they touched turned to gold. What the hell happened to them lately?

  • Ahh man this takes me back, i loved this game, it had a good story and i always liked the idea of fighting for the Empire. You get to fly with Darth vader on a few missions, although you can't kill him dammit...lol The Missle Boat missions where quite hard when you had to be quick to make sure you launch those missles at the right target quickly. It was easy to hit with locked missles but that changed in X wing alliance when they kept being shot down before they could strike, dumb fire ftw.

  • This game was awesome, and it was a nice touch to get to play as the Empire.

  • That throne chair at 1:43 looks a lot like the Senate Chancellor seat in the prequels. I can't believe I missed the foreshadowing.

  • Oh the fond memories. My first Star Wars game so I guess I was lucky. Hey look, Coruscant before the crappy prequels.

  • Man, I REALLY want to play this game...

Is it me the does the intro sound a tad cheerful? Darth Vader must be having a good day.

  • Still the best Star Wars game ever made. I always get goosebumps watching the intro.

I particularly enjoy how Tie Fighter adds "shades of grey" morality into what was a very black-and-white setting. You learn that your average Imperial saw themselves as fighting for a worthy cause; to maintain order and justice in the galaxy. Truly thought-provoking. It's even more commendable that the developers stayed true to this vision to the very end rather than cop out and have you defect.

  • @dKumfi Haha ;) To my own defense... I didn't get my own Computer until I was 10.

But yeah... looking back... I'm going slowly towards 30 >_>

  • @Serenchen

    I feel old now.
