The people are easily frightened of bogey men.
It's a tried and true political tactic, dating back thousands of years. It keeps fooling the masses again and again.
Of course there are real threats, if there weren't, then they couldn't be overblown and used as an excuse to diminish the power of the citizenry.
If all the threats through the ages were accurately portrayed, we should probably all be living in cages.

i think i would vote for a high ranking officer in the army or marines if they were to run, at least he would definitely know almost completely how our military works.

Great job, General Petraeus. You leave MNFI in the capable hands of General Odierno. Now, as CENTCOM commander...go and get or kill UBL and Zawahiri. And if the Pakistani army has a problem with hot pursuit, screw them and call in the air strikes.
