A report published last week in the Journal of the American Medical Association, suggests that women who've been on osteoporosis drugs for more than five years have a nearly three times higher risk of unusual fractures than those with only transient exposures to the drugs.

This got me thinking about osteoporosis. All disease, osteoporosis included, is caused from deficiency or toxicity or a combination of the two. The main cause of Osteoporosis is deficiency.
But guess what, even though industry marketing tells us so, it is not caused from a milk deficiency.
It is not caused from a calcium supplement deficiency.
It is not caused by a osteoporosis drug deficiency
There is one main factor which leads to osteoporosis, but before I get to that, here are 2 important things to do to maximize the effectiveness of the your osteoporosis prevention program.
If you want strong bones:
Eat a mineral-rich vegan diet
Eliminate foods shown to contribute to osteoporosis, like sodas, sugar, alcohol, white flour-containing foods and animal products-all these foods are highly acidic and over a lifetime can rob your bones of calcium to buffer the acid.
OK, now to the main factor
Yes, your calcium intake matters.  But it isn't the main factor.  In the US we drink more bovine mammary secretions than most of the rest of the world yet our osteoporosis rates are higher.   Vitamin D status is important too.  But again, it isn't the main factor.  You can have a huge calcium intake and have ideal blood levels of Vitamin D but if you don't have this one thing it won't matter.

The most important factor when in comes to osteoporosis is movement.
Exercise.
We have such high rates of osteoporosis because we have such high rates of sedentism. We spend too much time sitting around and not enough time moving around.
Bones remodel based on the stress placed upon them.  This is known as Wolfe's Law.   Our bodies are amazingly efficient and if we aren't using something we get rid of it.  Sitting around doesn't require much in the way ... Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • I recently turned Vegan and I feel like I'm saving my life! I also would like to tell folks that Veggie Slice and Tofurkey are NO GOOD, and might turn people off from eating Vegan. Just let the old way go, and get into the new. You don't have to slow cook beans and rice every day, they have instant brown rice and canned beans. Black beans by the way make wonderful refried beans and that way you're not eating lard. Also get used to reading things cause you will learn what you can and can't eat.

  • @unheard128 search youtube for " Vitamin D and Prevention of Chronic Diseases " its really helpful video

it shows that even normal meat, dairy, eggs based diet is deficient in vitamin D(3)

B12 and vit D is not a vegan problem it is problem of everyone ! 40% of Americans are b12 deficient yet i guess america has not such big rates of vegans :-)

  • From what i read vitamin k2 and vitamin d3 play a huge role in bone health. they are two things pretty much absent from a vegan diet. I am not trying to trick you out here i am interested to find this answer. How do vegans not get into serious issue with lack of vitamin D3 and K3, d3 i can understand if you live in a warm climate with lots of sun but lots of us don't. The only vegan K2 i know of is from Natto and im sure not many vegans are eating that.
