Virginia Olson Johansen [1933-2010] was a very dear friend of the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.....Metta her daughter is also a dear friend of the farmers market...She and her daughter used to bring down her babies to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market every Saturday to shop. Virginia used to get to the market fairly early in order to get a parking spot on Detroit Street. She used to park almost directly behind Ralph DeVulder and Dennis Sparrs stalls. I really got to know her when I worked for Ralph as a moonlight job along with my own clothing stall that I set up behind Ralph. I spoke to her every Saturday morning and carried her purchases to her car and I would visit with her babies. At that time she used to come down by herself with the pups. In the last year or so, Metta would come down with her because of her failing health. No matter what, she would appear with Metta to support the farmers and artists that she loved and raved about. She was a true patron of the arts and buy local farm produce and flowers. Her family and friends have fond memories of her beauty and generosity. But most of all she absolutely loved these two guys that you see in her favorite market mobile. We love and miss her. Metta still comes down to shop at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market with the dogs. She drives from Cleveland to visit her dad and the dogs and the farmers market......LOL : )
