On Dec. 1st, less than 48 hours after the police eviction of Occupy Philly, about 70 people gathered for a previously scheduled event at the Wooden Shoe bookstore to talk about what the Occupy movement can do next.

This is Part 1, with remarks from Mark Engler. Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C56oIos7AU8&feature=g-upl) has remarks from Cindy Milstein, and Part 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDwG318yF6w) will have the discussion, which was the main focus of the event.

Mark Engler's work can be found at http://www.democracyuprising.com/mark-engler/. Visit Wooden Shoe Books at 704 South Street or at http://woodenshoebooks.org

A brief quote from Mark's talk: "This issue of strategizing beyond the occupations was not created by the police.... We've given ourselves the ability to escalate.... It's when you have a very broad base of support that you can do things with boycotts, with bank sit-ins, on up to strikes and general strikes."

Sorry about the jerky moments in my video every once in a while.

Keep up with Occupy Philly by following the news at http://occupyphillymedia.org/. And you can attend the upcoming series of discussions that take "Strategizing Beyond Occupations" from here - starting Friday, Dec. 9th at 5:30pm at the Wooden Shoe. The focus for the first of the series will be direct democracy and the general assembly.

  • fucking rofl the only movement these twerps can pull off is a bowel movement.

  • i think people should generally stop speaking without having well-edited notes in front of them.

we should take our speech seriously and have intention behind it. realize that our speeches are really the only thing moving occupy. it should be planned out, like when Che talked to government officials.
