I love all this concession to "malfunctioning" of software...computers do not make mistakes. A programmer may make an error, but it is far more likely someone tampered with it. COMPUTERS DO NOT MAKE MISTaKES ONLY PEOPLE DO!

Your statement has a major flaw unless you do not want to use reason and logic. If people = computers and people=mistakes then computer =mistakes. Think about where is the check in balance with no paper? That's why if they gave a slip of paper after you voted and they counted those to see if they matched what the computer added up, there would be some Quality Assurance but I think they keep the system this way for a reason. I will let you connect the dots....

Why can't they just count the votes by hand, just as they do in Europe? Sure, it would take longer, but it least it would be accurate (provided none are mysteriously burnt or the dead appear on the register).
