Intralase / IntraLASIK - essentially an ALL LASER Lasik procedure that dispenses altogether with a blade (used in traditional Lasik). Centre for Sight introduced this technology to the UK in 2004 and has had a long head start. The video shows what takes place during the procedure including the surgeon's view. Advantages: precision, uniform flap thickness/thinness - Centre for Sight apparently like using thin flaps (100 microns or less) as they "provide minimal bio-mechanical change, better maintenance of corneal strength, better vision and less dry". Interestingly "Thin flap lasik with Intralase" has been termed SBK or "Sub-Bowman's Keratomileusis" by Stephen Slade and Dan Durrie in the US. You first heard it here at Lasik Eyes (although Centre for Sight have been doing this for over 3 years !)

  • @ndjarnag maybe you went to a bad surgeon, or someone that uses the old school technology.l. trust me, contact lenses can ruin lives also..

  • this is scary!

  • Laser is used cut the flap.

  • mines fine alright! go to a decent surgeon!

  • I love not having to wear contacts again!!! BTW, at 1:34, the Dr. did not cut the cornea. The machine that was above the eye already cut a circle around the cornea, the Dr. had to manually fold the cornea flap so that the laser could do the vision correction.

  • Did you use traditional lasik or intralasik?

  • Thank you. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope it gets better for you.

  • good point:

-I have SEVERE dry eye. It's very debilitating. I have left graduate school twice due to this problem.

-I am on excess Rx including drops made from my own blood. I also have all eye drains plugged. In fact, I drown myself in artificial tears anytime I use a computer.

-In fact, I just returned from the cornea specialist this afternoon. I may travel to Boston to try a new experimental contact lens to deal with this problem.

  • If you're going to come on here and post that, then the least you can do is say WHY it has ruined your life. Therefore, people will take you seriously.
