Introduction to the Shaking Ray Levi Society, presented by the Bill Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute and Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga.

The Shaking Ray Levi Society is a 501(c)(3), volunteer-run non-profit, dedicated to nurturing and supporting music, film, and performance art that is challenging, non-traditional, and falls outside the mainstream, in order to help nourish the cultural growth of Chattanooga. This is done by sponsoring shows by artists recognized on a national and international level, supporting original work by area musicians and filmmakers, and engaging the community through workshops and educational programs.

Video transcript:
Bob Stagner: When was the last time you had a new thought?

The Shaking Ray Levi Society has been alive in Chattanooga, TN for 25 years, and over the 25 years we've made it our mission to present forms of art, music, performance, film, dance, outreach, workshops that seriously challenge the mainstream. And we've been very fortunate to be consistently doing it in a way that's helped foster an independent film community, also with programs that work with people with physical and mental disabilities.

Mary Piper: We go to Signal Centers once a week; the children are all adorable and the adults are great. You just want to do everything you can to elevate their interest in just living. And the biggest thing that the Shaking Ray Levi Society is doing: helping bringing out creativity in all the people whose lives it touches.

Bob Stagner: We love Allied Arts; they support our work through the Cultural Partners Plan and like more people to know what they do and how they do it.
