GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR connects a group of apparent strangers over one night across ten bars throughout Los Angeles. Zachary Quinto stars as a dentist who teams up with a feisty would-be assassin (Carla Gugino) to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife. Once he makes a play for the assassin's payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a crosstown journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong clubs scattered across Los Angeles. By turns funny and heartbreaking, this sharp-witted comedy features ten interconnected vignettes that build to a revealing finish.
Among the talented cast bringing the characters onto the screen in Sebastian Gutierrez's GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR are:
Carla Gugino (Faster, Watchmen)
Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, "Heroes")
Danny DeVito (Get Shorty, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia")
Josh Hartnett (Thirty Days of Night, Pearl Harbor)
Rosario Dawson (Unstoppable, Grindhouse)
Emmanuelle Chriqui ("Entourage", You Don't Mess with the Zohan)
Aaron Tveit (Ghost Town, "Law and Order: SVU")
Robert Forster, Academy Award® nominee (Jackie Brown)
Amber Valletta (Hitch)
Gil Bellows ("Flash Forward," The Shawshank Redemption)
Kevin Zegers ("Gossip Girl")
Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls," The Secret of the Traveling Pants)
Michelle Ryan ("The Bionic Woman")
Xander Berkeley ("Nikita")
I like how the camera flies across the table for the OTS reverse from the master shot. One second the chick is on the left and then BAM she's on the right. Read about the 180 degree much?

@tvproducing I like it too! I first read about the 180 degree rule in an interview with Coppola where he talked about how much he loved breaking it in Godfather 2 and how upset film students and prudes got. I made a bet with my DP that audiences were much more film savvy now and up for all kinds of rule breaking.

@ShangrilaEnt Well, there are certain shots where it still flows with the breaking of rules. Kind of like the shot at the speech hall in Wonder Boys with Michael Douglas that breaks the 180, but it works there. It's a bit more jarring here. I think the background of the bar would have looked better anyway with the shot-reverse-shot MCUs

@tvproducing We shot it that way too but liked the way this added more tension to the scene. I thought you were saying you liked it and were simply pointing out to the more close-minded types that if they had read much about the 180 degree line, they would have found directors have a long history of getting playful with it. Alas, it's the beauty of art -- totally subjective. Cheers.
