Dancer I Gusti Ayu Sukmawati dances Oleg, the famous bumblebee dance with Wayan from Singpadu with Gamelan Semara Ratih playing the music. Ayu makes this piece beautifully dramatic and clear. Her aunt, Gusti Raka, was the first dancer to dance this piece; she was taught it by the choreographer, I Mario.
The complete video of this dance is available from Bali Record, BRVCD-14.

  • if i'm not mistaken, gusti means princess right?

  • Yes, it does mean princess, but many people share the title because it goes with a certain caste now. But, actually, Gusti Ayu has royal ancestry in the Javanese kingdom of Yogyakarta.

  • bali very gooddddddddddd

  • hahaha, i'd really like to perform this with my girlfriend, hahaha.... anyway, i really like the gamelan, especially when the male dancer comes out :D

  • "Tamulilingan" actually refers to a buzzing pollinating beetle which is similar in size and behavior to a bumblebee. I've heard two versions of what the dancers are supposed to represent - one is that the female dancer is a flower while the male is the tamulilingan; the other is that they are both tamulilingan.

  • What a pitty - nice dancers a fab gamelan, and then there are theese breaks. I would have enjoyed to see all of it.

Was the file too big for an upload?

You called it bumblebee dance, why? Thats new for me.
