Justice Richard Goldstone, the former South African Supreme Court Justice, offered the address to the graduates of the Class of 2011 at Beloit College on Sunday, May 15. In his remarks, he challenged the graduates to believe in themselves and their abilities. On his second visit to the college where he served as the 2006-07 Weissberg Chair in International Studies, he referenced his experiences overseeing international inquiries into human rights violations in Kosovo, the Balkans, Rwanda, and even in his homeland.
"Again and again, I have seen what a commitment to humanity and above all, human dignity can achieve," he said. "Keep faith that what you do matters. Never lose hope that you can bring change. Live your lives in light of the promise of what we might achieve together."
