My son Joshua (age 12) put together a movie of our trip to Winnipeg, Red Lake, Ontario area and then Manitouwadge, Ontario, places that I have lived at while growing up in the early 1960's and beyond. It brought back lots of memories..., (and yes I really did stick my tongue on that frosty steel pole in a January 1962 school recess break.)

The movie starts in Winnipeg with some relatives and places our family visited, and then continues eastbound, seemingly halfway across the country. We stopped at Red Lake, Madsen and also took a few shots of Balmertown, before passing through Manitouwadge. Some pics may seem familiar to those of you who are from those areas. Lots of driving (4500kms) and tenting (some call it"car-camping") days without shower access, ...but we had a blast and our spirits remained high!

In Madsen/Red Lake area, I learned that the Madsen Gold Mine crusher building & refinery and the Madsen Public school (mould issues), and one of the two houses I had lived in have been torn down. No one remains that I know of.

In Manitouwadge, they have built a new high school. They were in the process of tearing down the old high school the day I was there, but apparently first they have to deal with the mould & asbestos issues.

Yes those are my kids making the 18-wheelers honk. They even persuaded a passing freight train to toot a couple of times! This was alongside a Hwy 17 (TransCanada Hwy) campground.

We ended the trip via the Manitoulin Island Ferry to Southern Ontario via Lake Huron.

We wanted to see a bear and a moose as a minimum, and we saw that and much, much more, renewing an appreciation for this vast & rugged land we call Canada ! Hey Josh, you really did a terrific job on the video !!!
