A tribute to my favourite Bus, the East Kent Regent V. I have always liked the colour scheme of the old East Kent Road Car Company and as a boy thought their Regent V to be quite unique. To this day I still like the look of the bus inside and out. The curves of the bottom of the windscreeen that match the curve behind the engine compartment and the curve of the seat backs and handrails. Then there is the tuneful whine of the engine and transmission as the bus works up through the gears. I get so lost in nostalgia sometimes.

  • I always admired this bus as a lad, the sounds and the look. Even the insides seemed well designed and colour coordinated. I couldn't understand why the likes of London Transport didn't use them.

  • I'm certain this same bus was at Manston in 2010. Looks as though this would have been on the 49 & 50 routes in Margate in the 60's when I was firmly in short trousers.

  • @Jeremycj PFN867 most probably was the bus at Manston being owned by Friends of the East Kent/East kent Heritage Trust. The other preserved Puffin 874 is privately owned I believe.

The Puffins also ran the 52. As the short-trousered version of myself recalls, when the 52 arrived at Ramsgate Harbour from Margate via Westwood, it mysteriously transformed into a 49 or 50.
