This video shows many tests demonstrating the fundamental behavior of pistons in Minecraft version 1.7.3.

To download the World of Science, see this post on the Minecraft Forums: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/366339-taviriders-world-of-science/

Testing Conclusions:

Pistons cannot push: bedrock, dispensers, note blocks, obsidian, dungeon spawners, chests, furnaces, jukeboxes, portals, signs, extended pistons, and chains of blocks longer than 12.

Pistons always destroy: saplings, water (source and flowing), lava (source and flowing), leaves, web, grass, flowers, mushrooms, torches, fire, ladders, levers, pressure plates, redstone torches, buttons, snow layers, cactus, pumpkins, jack'o'lanterns, cake, doors, redstone wire, sugar cane, beds, and redstone repeaters.

All other block types can be pushed and pulled.

Objects are almost always destroyed if they are pushed into invalid places, such as pushing a cactus into open air. The one known exception is minecart tracks.

Pistons break redstone connections in 0 ticks and connect them in 2 ticks.

Players, objects, and mobs fall through a single block, but do not fall if they straddle two moving blocks.

Pistons do not do damage to players or mobs, but they can damage players or mobs by pushing blocks into them.

  • so the pig spawners spawn a dungeon?

  • @adio310001 Huh? Pig spawners spawn pigs.

  • @TaviRider but you said dungeon spawner.

  • @adio310001 @michelfijn Ahh. Back when I filmed this, the only place you ever found spawners was in dungeons, so some people called them dungeon spawners. Or something.

  • @SubShadow123 I try my best to give credit for designs, but I can't always remember where they came from or find the web page where I originally saw them. In this case I couldn't find it, so I made my own design. I'm not sure whether Kimundi2's version is the first one I saw. But there's one very important thing to note: I didn't say I invented it.

  • sub to you,sir!

  • Yes, wolves were harmed in the making of this video

  • Hey Tavirider. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos. They are greatly appreciated! I hope all is good in your world.

  • If you call that a bug, then I'll be upset if they fixed it. The bug you said was where the piston pulls the track into an arch. I like that fact and want that for builds.

  • whisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssstle

  • So u are not dead?

  • @TaviRider In the video, you said "Dungeon spawners". :P

  • You should update this with the new blocks like fence gates, glass panes, and iron bars.
