To Madame Larisa Novoseltzeva, excellent Russian
singer and composer with gratitude for all the charm
and artistic messages included to her musical productions.

Alexander Vertinsky (1889 - 1957) legendary and perhaps already mythical to-day personality, a Russian poet, singer and composer.

Vertinsky was performing in Poland twice: in 1923 and 1932;
his second travel - from Paris - was connected also
with recordings which the Artist made for Syrena-Electro Company and for the Polish label of Parlophon.
He, accompanied by a young handsome Parisian lady, appeared also in Sopot, a luxury place of the sea-side
resort where high-society and artists used to spend
their time of leisure. It was then when he was met
by Teodozja Maliszewska (1:54) and her daughter,
Polish dancer, Lili Larys. They had together an evening
hour at the restaurant of the Sopot Kasino (1:28 - the building ruined by the end of the WW2) and were recollectiong
the pre-revolutionary times that they had spent in Russia
as well as the troubles of the following years and the misery of the escape from the country of bolsheviks.

................

Reassure me, Dear !...
Tell me that it was a joke
And that you are still mine,
As it was before.

Do not leave me !
I feel infinitely creepy,
So painfully,
So terribly without you !

But you will go away - cold and distant,
With a heart encased in silk and chinchilla...

Do not despise me! Do not be so cruel !
Let it seem to me,
That you are still mine !. ..

Dresden, 1930

  • @wernernon78

I see you need some lesson on history, mein Herr !

The city of Gdańsk (Danzig) and Sopoty (Zoppot) were "free towns" on the basis of 1920

Versal Treaty. Until the attack of Germany on Poland, 1939.

  • Just caught up with this very sad and moving song, that final phrase

    "Let it seem to me,

That you are still mine. "

this works on so many levels. Sadly I do not speak any Russian or Polish, yet their songs and music are so accessible, so easy to listen to. You can learn about and understand their emotions coiled within the music.

    Dziękuję bardzo.

Actually made with true involvement: interpretation of Vertinsky and

the work of the video (where you can see the mother (L.L.) of the author,

    so many years ago...)

  • Rendered with great feeling. Effective and affective interpretation. Thanks for this posting.
