Young Sámi rockband SomBy from Finland won on Saturday the 31st of October the sixth edition of the European minority languages song contest Liet International. After a very tight and exciting voting procedure they managed to acquire most votes from the international jury. De public award was won by hiphop band Dr. Drer and CRC Posse from Sardegna in Italy. Both winners won a cheque of 1.000 euros from the Council of Europe. Both bands will be invited back to Friesland for next years Befrijdingsfestival on the Fifth of May 2010. Liet International also attracted lots of media such as CNN International, Swedish Television, Sámiradio and Asturian Radio Sele.
