Air raid sirens have been sounding across Serbia to mark 10 years since the start of Nato's bombing campaign.

The offensive was launched to force Serbian troops out of the province of Kosovo, after accusations that the Serbs were committing atrocities against the ethnic Albanians.

A decade on, Serbia is still wrestling with its past, as Al Jazeera's Jayne Azzopardi reports.

  • @Hperman09 I'm pretty sure Albanians were the majority in Kosovo: Over 2 million, and 750,000 ended up being killed or pushed out if the country.

  • thats not good i live in kaonik and its crapy they bombed a big house behind our house i hate NATO !!!!!!

  • Serbia was attacking the Albanian minority in Kosovo and thousands of them were pouring across the borders into neighbouring countries. Serbia was bombed to stop it.

A country cannot push a minority they don't want across the borders into other countries. It would have destabilised several poor countries in the Balkans such as Albania and Macedonia. Same during the Bosnian War, we got Bosnian refugees and that migration slowed down after U.S./NATO bombed the Serbs in August-September 1995.

  • @Swimmer249 Yes. And a lot of people got cancer. Much more that before bombing. It will never clean up. Maybe for 20 years.

  • @lady89nen

I know. You're right, that's stupid thinking. That depleted uranium stuff is horrible and it's very difficult to clean up.

  • @Swimmer249 Yes, I know. So I don't like when I read comment like "they deserved that", I mean I was 10 years old back then, why I deserved that, you know. It's stupid to think like that. They used cluster bombs, which are forbidden. And they dropped I don't know how much tones of depleted uranium, so we can die slowly. And they called that bombing humanitarian and named it "Merciful angel" !!! As I said, very bad things.

  • @lady89nen

Markets and hospitals? That's crazy. So, I assume the neo-conservative fascist madmen in my government (USA) also did this? What they did in Serbia is terrible. They do bad things in the US as well.

  • @23Vickery What do you mean with that?

  • @Swimmer249 yea. they also bombed trains, buses, bridges, markets and once they bombed a hospital in my city. Bad thing, very bad.

  • My city at 0:54 :(
