Yup. And Thief and System Shock are very similiar. They're about very time periods, but they share some similar themes and they have pretty similar gameplay. Thief is better in my opinion though :-)

@sford605 Well, Looking Glass Studios made both System Shock 2 and The Dark Project back to back, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Actually, I think Deus Ex would have been more heavily influenced by System Shock. I came to that conclusion by myself just because of the similarities between the two, but I also read that Warren Spector said the same. Of course, he also worked on Thief so it's very likely that it influenced him as well. I just don't think it is quite as great an influence as System Shock.

Let's just say Oblivion, Skyrim, Morrowind and Deus Ex all owe a lot to Thief.

@biciunas Yes very! Like Morrowind and Oblivion, you get lost in the world of Thief. Worth a try!
