@tom4705 that kind of explosion with that short of duration, no! its not THAT hot. he may have gotten 2nd degree burns at the worst and thats if the vehicle was made primarily out of magnesium. if you get engulfed in something like that, are you going to just stand there and get burned? or are you going to move? as long as you're wearing your appropriate ppe, you have to be a real knucklehead to get 3rd degree burns from a fire like that.

@kevin462 oh right, so your saying the guy here with the explosion at 0:11 is not dangerous? The guy could have gotten 3rd degree burns man. Which ever is safer, and more available, if theres a fire, im not gonna think of " which I should or shouldn't use " I just wanna put the damn thing out! Just saying.

@tom4705 i agree a dollar isn't worth a life, but thats not what i was saying. if there aren't any life threats on the scene, which in this case, there aren't, theres no need to try and extinguish it with class d extinguishers and/or foam. its just unnecessary when water is going to do the same thing, just not as timely.

@Ridoli Your right, but to become a firefighter we have to know what magnesium is. Just letting you know..

@Kopihucky 1Well not to far, but that guy was WAY to close to it.

@kevin462 a dollar is not worth your life. I would grab which ever is closer and safer.
You use water on fire. The car was on fire. He probably had no idea there was magnesium in there until it did that.

are you really going to waste a $700 class D extinguisher? and take the chance of not putting it out? or would you just be smart about it and use copious amounts of water. it WILL go out. it just takes a little while longer. or you could waste foam too. not sure how everyone else's dept is, but mine is always looking to save the almighty dollar.
