@mattl33thaxorz The ruling had more to do with the lack of one cohesive governance structure for the sport than with anything the athletes do on the competition floor. There are too many companies out there running too many different kinds of competition. If they could all get together and work out some way for there to be one structure, then it would qualify. But there are too many companies making too much money for that to happen.

I believe cheerleaders are great athletes and work very hard yada yada. that said:

The Supreme Court ruled competitive cheerleading to not be a sport. It does not qualify under Title IX as "offering genuine varsity athletic participation opportunities for students."

ergo. Cheerleading is not a sport :( sorry
