This short extract was from the The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of North Louisiana's 1999 production of HMS Pinafore, directed by John Matthews. This is the Finale to Act One. It was videoed with an old heavy analogue camera, handheld, from the back of the auditorium (with permission) by Nadine Charity. She maintains that the permanent tilt and shaky camera work was supposed to simulate the ship's motion in the swell! (The truth is I forgot to pack the tripod.)

  • Excellent .... thanks for putting these up, especially with the words. I can hardly read it as fast as they have to sing it in places.

  • Thank you so much for your kind comment.

  • A very lively performance. Good job!

Well sung and sounds true to the score.

Aren't those G&S six part harmonies wonderful?

  • I have enjoyed all three clips from this production. (Are there more?) Good lively performance here by Dick Deadeye. It is not easy singing alone against the rest of the company. (Nice touch throwing him overboard.)

Rafe and Josephine sing their parts well - in fact everyone does. Well done!! Probably the best amateur production on YouTube!

  • There is much good here, and that includes the unseen orchestra. But Ralph and Josephine need to work on their chemistry as lovers becase they come across too stifly, as strangers. Add a big dose of sentimentality!
