Been a while YouTube world. I guess this is just as much a weblog type update as well as just remembering how the YouTube upload feature works.
Yes I'm still alive, and still playing musical instruments of some description. I had the chance to play with a band of a friend at work, he invited me twice! i turned him down the first time but i guess if he asked me a 2nd time i better take up his offer!
so i turn up to practice with my guitar and i have no amp except a crappy one that a friend donated to me and it's not even loud enough to compete with the Vox amp my friend has.
So after i ate baked beans and white rice for 2 months so i can save up for it, now i got this brand spanking new guitar amp made by Blackstar. basically the amp PWNS. i've only got it turned up to 1 or 2 cos i'm at home, but if i took it to a gig it would be easy loud enough for a small stage. i has now enough ampage to over-loud my friend!
The guitar is a Squier Vibe 50s Telecaster. picked it up used from a friend at work. it's a really nice instrument. I've always wanted a tele for it's pure basic-ness. the neck is really nice for my hands, it suits my playing style better than my other electric. for a tele, the pickups sound surprisingly good, they are just single coil pickups, typically will not give you as heavy a sound as say a Les Paul style guitar with humbuckers, but you crank the overdrive it's a very usable sound.
the only gripe i have is the 'vintage' bridge, it's the old 3 saddle job and has the stupid side ashtray thing, sometimes when picking near the bridge, my plectrum hits the side of the ashtray instead of the strings!, plus the outer strings the little screws poke out a little so it rips up the side of my hand if trying to palm mute. but it doesnt hurt that much really i can live with it.
So yes i'm very pleased right now. got a nice guitar and a very loud amp. any musician with an ounce of soul will not be able to help jumping on the overdrive switch and just rocking out those riffs!
I need to get myself a tele, really nice for little twiddly stuff. Have to check out that one.
I've just rescued my old amp from my mum and dad's. It's a 1969 Fender Bassman Export, I haven't a got a cab for it now though. Think I'll show it in a video.

@siggy75 hey Mr Siggy yep this tele is pretty good - just purely by chance a guy at work was doing a clearout of his guitar collection and i wanted this one just purely for the colour at first! haha
it's in the 'vintage' style but a few useful modern touches, like having the truss adjust in the headstock rather than under the neck join which i believe where the very first teles had them, nice tone control which doesn't drown out all the sound...

@siggy75 also i think the pickups have the 'Highway One' style reverse wiring so in the middle position it's got some hum cancelling - the only thing that annoys me is the vintage bridge with the 3 saddles they poke out a bit but i can put up with it, suppose i could change it out for a modern bridge if i got really serious
i really like this over the ibanez cos it suits my rhythmic style better, i can chug away at chords!
