Thanks for the upload - I hope more people take a look at it. Washington was probably the greatest educator of the late 19th-early 20th centuries. He withstood strong criticism (mostly from other Blacks) when he argued that true freedom comes through education, not simply by demanding more rights. This is more relevant today than ever. I admire the first quote of his that you list at the end: "No man can bring me down so low as to make me hate him."

Mr. Booker T. Washington understood the principle of liberty that you work hard toward equality and not demanding equality through political means.

I haven't really studied Mr. Washington very much from this video he is so underrated for what he did in his life.

Frankly, I think Booker T. Washington is the greatest and most enlightened African American hero thus far. It's a shame his message and example haven't been embraced more widely. I really think he had THE formula for cultural success. I understand that most blacks today probably wouldn't agree. But as an Asian American, I can say that Booker T. Washington is the one black historic figure I am in truly in awe of.

Brother Booker T. inspired us to not only be bright, but to be more brighter when it came to growing our own products and investing into our values.

Brother Booker T. got our people to build a self-help program to develop our own resources without others.

@kagerone Hmmm, you say that, "racism and slavery had nothing to do with education" ? You might want to get back to me after you've considered the imnplication of what you said.  I would also be curious to know what sort of education you have ... and how the negative attitude that seems to have you in its grip is working out for ya.

This is a great man who built himself up. He withstood tremendous opposition (particularly from other Blacks) when he said independence could be best gained through education, not by simply demanding rights.  This principle is just as relevant today as it was when Washington was alive. I for one am inspired by him and feel it's important to honor his memory.
