This is part 5/ 5 of my driving from Kirkenes in Norway to Murmansk in Russia going through Nikel just after the border between Norway and Russia. I drove along the road E105. A great journey to reach Murmansk and then down to Sochi. You can follow me in the next journey in June 2012 via FB www.facebook.com/drivingtorussia or via the blog www.blog.drivingtorussia.com - Thank you for watching this video

  • This is called road E105, however you will never say a sign to say that, you can only see on a map. Checkpoints are very quick, they just checked the passports.

  • Yes correct. Carry on and if i remember correctly after 2 or 3 kms you will get to the turn off for Nikel. (video 3 of 5 point 06:57) Straight if you want to go to Nikle or stay on the main road on the right to go to Murmanks. After you will see Nikel on the left side. After Nikel the road gets better.

  • Great journey! Thanks!

  • @DrivingToRussia Right now I am in the last year of highschool, so I'll leave with two mates in June or July. School ends in mid-June.

So I should just go straight through Nikel instead of following the sign to Murmansk?

How are the checkpoints? Does it take much time?

  • To drive from the border to Murmansk it should take from 2 to 3 hours, it depends how many time you stop. I suggest to see Nikel, very unusual town. I probably return to Murmansk in June

  • @sjureman Thank you for your comments. If i remember correctly is 70/kmh but in any case the road is small so you can't really go faster than that. Just be careful when you see the sign to Murmansk telling to go right, don't turn but stay on the main road and follow for Nikel. If you turn, you arrive in Murmansk but there are more than 100km off road!. You can see the sign in my video 3 of 5 point 01.25. There are also 2 permanent check points along the road. When are you going there?
