When pianist, Benny Green, agreed to come to KPLU's Seattle studios for a solo piano performance he was on tour with his band doing a tribute to the music of Thelonious Monk. He said the first music he could remember hearing, and which he attributes the correlation between music and happiness was "Monk's Dream," so it seemed logical he should perform the title track from that album.

  • He plays it with joy and finality in his phrasing - as Monk did. it captures the spirit of the song that Monk seemed to have intended. Superb.

  • Respectful. Faithful. Lovely. The missing grit and splank are Monk's alone.
