Album "Suzanne Vega", 1985

We go to the playground
In the wintertime
The sun is fading fast
Upon the slides into the past
Upon the swings of indecision
In the wintertime

In the dimming diamonds
Scattering in the park
In the tickling
And the trembling
Of freeze tag
In the dark

We play that we're actors
On a movie screen
I will be Dietrich
And you can be Dean

You stand
With your hand
In your pocket
And lean against the wall
You will be Bogart
And I will be
Bacall

And we can only say yes now
To the sky, to the street, to the night

Slow fade now to black
Play me one more game
Of chivalry
You and me
Do you see
where I've been hiding
In this hide-and-seek?

We go to the playground
In the wintertime
The sun is fading fast
Upon the slides into the past
Upon the swings of indecision
In the wintertime
Wintertime
Wintertime

We can only say yes now
To the sky, to the street, to the night
We can only say yes now
To the sky, to the street, to the night

  • One of her best songs, and one of the lesser known ones.

But where are the pictures from?

  • some are mines, and the rest from the web

  • What places?

I ask you also before, curiously enough, the train in the picture could looks like an Italian model that is used on various local train lines here in Italy. :)

  • Suzanne Vega is a giant in true musical history ! Besides her incredible guitar playing ans vocals , her song-writing ability is simply awesome. I hope that I have the opportunity to see her in concert one day !

  • Amazing artist! Im trying to know more about Suzanne, back in the 80s i only listen to 4 or 5 songs from her and now i now i have missed a lot!!!

  • A true GIANT of the songwriting world! Up there with the best of them.

  • Such an evocative song; at the time this came out, I would often hang out in the park at night with my friends, and I would always be thinking of this song.

    .

  • gotta love how this song is at once very sophisticated and very evocative

  • Such an innocent and sweet song!

  • hi big smoke-

i think its a teenage boy and a teenage girl, playing tag and flirting on a playground at night-- the names shes saying are old actors- bogart, deitrich, dean, becall. . . .. . who i think they pretend to be. . . and its a thing she rememebrs from long ago- slow fade now to black. i LOVE this song, i'm a semi-professional musician with a million songs and soudns in my brain, and this REMAINS one of my very FAVORITE things. . .THANK YOU for posting!
