Racing Techniques 1

Ok, I'm not a professional or anything but here's some advice in racing technique.

This first video focuses on the wheel, the shifter and your hands. Our hands are extremely important tools in this physical life. Without them we would be limited in our abilities to sense and manipulate our surroundings. While in the car, don't limit yourself of these abilities with lazy hands. The most important thing is to keep both hands on the wheel whenever possible. Along with the rest of your body, your hands connect you to your car and the road.

Think of your brain as an organic ECU. By keeping both hands on the wheel you are able to receive as much feedback from your car and the road as much as possible. This feedback is sent to your brain. The brain then sends appropriate commands based off what it has evaluated back into your hands. It's a constant cycle of feedback-input-feedback-input.

Now, this is just a video game and video games are still nothing in comparison to the real thing. The only feedback I get from video games is vision, sound, and the "force feedback" from the wheel. In real life there are g-forces acting on your entire body. Even your sense of smell could be used as important feedback in a racing situation. Until video games evolve enough to allow nearly as much feedback as the real deal, practicing your racing technique in reality will bring greater results than with virtual reality.
