@BChristie88SV What are the historical accuracies though? People who swear by the bible are cherry-picking what they want to believe from it. I don't think that book should be used as a basis for laws that affect everyone - even those who don't accept its ludicrous claims to authenticity. We need a basis, but we don't need that basis to be from religion. Nothing makes the bible more important or valid than any other book, just the number of its believers, which doesn't give it credence.
@darkpawuk I agree that some of the Bible's contents are pretty outlandish but there are a number of historical accuracies within the text. My original point "what if the Bible were not an authentic item" was directed at people that swear by the Bible even though it may be a potentially false item... you are basically reiterating my original point? Anyways, like it or not, the Bible is a huge fundamental foundation component of Western civilisation/culture/society/law...
@BChristie88SV And in 2000 years, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone might be transcribed just as much as the bible is now. In 2000 years, this Harry Potter book might have the same importance then as the bible does now. What makes the bible more important? How long it's been around? You can't base the authenticity of a book on how many people read it. You have to base its authenticity on its CONTENTS, and that simply hasn't been done.
@darkpawuk It is the single most transcribed text in the world. Whether the original events are real or not, it does have some remarkable historical insights.
p.s. - am not a Christian, just keeping an open mind.
