Can't help but see a similarity to the Global Warming scam and terrorism threat scam. Looks like it's common for all scams of nowadays, to corrupt research/estimates by unclear definitions and computer models and scare the crap out of people with very graphic and eqaully false images. They follow exactly the same script - all these problems are very intangible and uncountable and detached from the common sense, to make people believe without checking(they wouldn't understand it so why bother)
