The son's choice to commit a crime is distinct from his mother's love for him. He will always be her child. Driving to Point MacKenzie to see him and support him is more possible than flying to Colorado. Family support while in prison can help an inmate live an honest life upon his release.
Goose Creek Correctional Center is opening. Operation funds were included in the Governor's budget. 1022 Alaska inmates are housed by another state right now.

Well in this case all the Alaska inmates in Colorado are male. And all will be male at Goose Creek at Point MacKenzie. This is why we referred to them as "him".

It's ridiculous how they have this lady trying to tug on our heart strings because her son is out of state IN PRISON. Guess he shouldn't have decided to be a criminal if he wanted to spend his time with his family. On the topic of the prison itself, last I heard it was just gonna sit unused with a maintenance crew. Did that change? P.S. Yes I do live in Alaska, and in the Mat-Su Borough.

which is odd considering how big alaska is. Why is this state so lax where any sort of commerce is concerned? it's like the entire state thinks it's OWED to them instead of something that needs to be worked on.

Great information, very useful... one question... why do they refer to inmates as 'him' or 'he' or 'his'? Very non-political move for the borough.

Follow-up on first comment; With over 1000 inmates out of state and our prisons bursting at the seams you would have to start today building another prison twice the size of GCCC to houses inmates. You do the math over 1000 out of state prisons busting at the seams and only 1500 new beds at GCCC. Remember this we will always house prisoners out of state and our tax payer dollars will pay it, it’s the old saying, “pay me now or pay later”.

Good job on the video, be careful of the under lying words that are not spoken by our political leaders, they may be misleading in nature. With the rise in the inmate population and decline in the job sector and the lack of confidence in our government leaders, the inmate population is on the rise in Alaska the same as it is in every state and country. Sure it’s nice to have a multimillion dollar prison but you will never get away from housing inmate out of the state of Alaska.
