@GUITARPLAYAx93x What I can also say for certain is that whether a person is hit with a subsonic 230gr .45cal bullet, or a supersonic 185gr version, they are going to have a very bad day. Shot placement is everything. I carry a 9mm loaded with 124gr +P JHP's (17 of 'em) because modern 9mm ammo has been shown to be every bit as good as most other service pistol cartridges including .45ACP, and in the event of a multiple badguys, more is better and anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice;)

@GUITARPLAYAx93x Oh sure they will be, particularly in modern ammo. The gov chose the 230gr ball round because military ammo can't be designed to expand, so they felt that the heavier bullet, with greater penetration would be favorable since overpenetration in military use isn't an issue. Modern 185 and 200gr JHP standard and +P loads (all supersonic) can perform every bit as well as any of the 230gr offerings with less risk of overpenetration, a serious consideration for personal defense use.

@mvolesky1 Any .45 ACP load that's supersonic isn't going to be heavy enough or stable enough to be useful.

The spiraling is a result of rifling (helical lands and grooves in the bore of the gun), which stabilized the projectile and allows for far greater accuracy, range and terminal performance. There are other means of stabilizing projectiles, but rifling is the most practical in small arms.

@GUITARPLAYAx93x Some .45 ACP loads are supersonic, though generally just barely. The "standard" .45 ACP 230gr ball load is subsonic (about 950fps).

awesome

@awwwsnaps It happens XD

@94981745 All bullets do that. It improves a bullets accuracy and range, it pierces the air better.

@reaperflynn3 more like a cannon :)
its .45 not 45. if it was that would be the biggest pistol round ever made.

@jordancs12684 news flash, the bullet moves almost the speed of sound, the slide moves MUCH slower. not surprising you cant see it start moving in a fraction of a second video clip.
