  • @MarquisdeLafayett The aging population issue has been going for decades and I would argue that it's Japan's failure to keep up with the rest of the world that has made it worse. I should know since I live and work here.

You say chaos should be avoided but you can't avoid natural disasters and Japan is very prone to them. The system is vulnerable because it's outdated. Why delay the reforms? It only prolongs the inevitable.

  • @bobokk once again i must disagree with you ... i feel that the main factor in japans stagnant growth is their demogprahic situation , having way more elderly to care for and not enough young people ..their system is vunlrable , but if they can mantain their balancing act for another 30 years by which time the current elderly should pass away , then i think japan could begin to enact the needed market reforms , but until that time , anything that brings chaos to the system should be avoided .

  • @MarquisdeLafayett There were many other companies who were in exactly the same position as Olympus in the 90's and they declared their losses and managed to survive. One of the main reasons that Japan has stagnant growth is because CEOs and politicians refuse to accept that they've been overtaken by their Asian neighbors. Yet still we have these corrupt dinosaurs trying to run things as if it's still 1985. It's no wonder no one wants to spend their money.

  • @bobokk i think it's justified in japan where they have experinced a lost decade ... i'm betting that many major japanese companies have problems similar to olympus .. years of stagnant growth and now the worst nuclear disaster in japan have weakened an already weak economy even further ... now as to your example of selling harmfull products that's an entirely different example ... i'm simply talking about market numbers , not physical harm to human beings ..

  • @MarquisdeLafayett No they're not justified at all. I doubt you would say the same thing if food or drug companies sold you products that gave you cancer but covered it up to "protect the economy". Watch the movie Michael Clayton for a good example of that.

This is a failed system and protecting it only causes more problems for the people. You will never create real growth unless the economy is based on real trade.

  • @vibrohm no , your thinking like an america , i'm looking at it from the japanese perspective ... which is that while the company may have made mistakes in the past , those actions should be overlooked and covered up for the continued health of the company ... in some ways it's alot like what's happening with the US economy with the government covering things up so that life as we know it can continue ..Besides with all that's happened in japan , coverups to protect the economy are justified .

  • Yeah a very ignorant view on the matter. You are basically saying "Lets ignore the things that are wrong in the world and make some money". You think Olympus employees are being affected the most but you don't see the whole of japan (and world) has been fucked up the ass by corporations acting like this. You are saying "Oh please let Olympus fuck me in the ass, as long as I get a paycheck who cares about right and wrong". Ignorant.

  • @HoosierMF companies make mistakes , i doubt the current crop of leaders is responsible for the mistakes made 20 years ago ...look at the damage that's been done by exposing the "mistakes" it would have been better for olympus and the rest of japan if this scandal had never come out ... this will do nothing but damage market confidence in japanese companies ...what does it really matter , the entire economy is a lie .. our entire world works off of lies ...
