Yes, the opera was "Casta Diva" from Vincenzo Bellini's Norma. The commercial is also a parody of a perfume commercial at the time. The time lapse cloud scene were taken from the documentary Koyaanisqatsi. At the time the episode was made, Russia did not abide by American copyright laws. In return, America wouldn't either. The commercial is also an homage to David Lynch who did several independent black & white films early on.
