Hi sean,
many years ago I lived in Fazakerley and vaguely knew your dad, and his sadly deceased brother Joe who was for a time on Evertons books and I'd played footy with him on Hawksmoor park!
Also knew John Smith who I believe or was told that Cook da Books was "his band" ie the manager! 1st time I've ever heard their music , am now in australia!

My pal Phil "Phibber" Munchausen liked this band so much he formed his own tribute act Crap Da Keks, and released a single about a man who saw the riots and shat his pants,it was called "Pudding in The Pantaloons"....but he doesn't always tell the truth.
This is one of the best tunes ever. I remember Geoff Davis of Probe playing this in the shop all the time. I worked in HMV at the time but would always sneak off to Probe and Pnny Lane records because they would play these amazing tunes that defined the times. Da Books should have been huge. I am looking for the 12" version of Living for the City as well..so if you know...let me know.

@DrFrasier95
That original Probe records used to always have copies of the 12".
Though there should still be a few places in the city centre you'll find it.
Try 'Hairy Records' at the top of Bold St. or even Probe which is now situated on Slater St. just off Bold St. If you luck-out there, try the second-hand stores in the new Quiggins opposite Rapid.

Alright sean!!
Seen you comment on the TV appearance stuff and knew that's who you where.
Yeah I do have one more idea in the pipeline, it's gonna be like a follow up to this, in the way of the b-side 'gone to black' which i'm sure you know is the themes instrumental version of piggie. When I can get some time i'll start putting it together and let you know when it's up.

are cook da books from liverpool, the stanley house line makes me think they are, this song is awesome
mcoshea83 2 years ago
Yes they are from Liverpool.
They come from the suburb of Fazakerley.
The line "In the Echo they get it wrong"
'The Echo' is a local newspaper, and is not to be mistaken for maybe 'And The Bunnymen' in which 'Echo' was a drum machine they used to use before getting in a real drummer.
The word 'Eight' in the title is refering to the first part the postcode for Toxteth (L8)
Hope that makes sense of one or two things that may also have a few people thinking about.
