For decades the world's major oil producers have tried to control prices by cutting or raising supplies, which relied on all of them sticking to agreed quotas.

But unity amongst oil-rich nations appears to be crumbling.

Now Russia has just overtaken Saudi Arabia as the world's biggest producer and it's done it by failing to keep its promise to slow down production.

Neave Barker reports from Moscow.

  • Oil and Nat Gas arent the only natural resources Russia has the edge on. They have, for instance, more proven platinum reserves than the rest of the world combined.

  • Good for Russia, this should give a huge advantage to them, even thou im American i feel safer knowing that a Non-western or Allie of the west is getting the oil, especially Russia.

  • Russia and Saudi Arabia should united against zionist america

  • @krum369 Its okay we got the Arabs.

  • Its okay we got Nigeria, Venezuela, Iraq, Canada, and of course the Arabs.

  • Anybody who thinks russia oil is in decline , then think agian January 2011 russian oil production 10.2 million barrels per day , all russia needs to do now is make IRAN there isreal , thus preventing the us from taking over irainian oil and gas to counter the russian

  • простым россиянам от этого ни холодно, ни жарко не становится!

  • @krum369

And I'm Russian and I feel exactly the opposite lol. See, Russia has one-sixth of the earth's land surface and the most oil, and any resources you wish etc., but it's still such a messed up country in every sense. Russia could do so much better, and it had so many chances to, and still nothing seems to work there but the perfectly staged political government dramas.

  • russia sells oil and natural gas to europe

  • However, not saying platinum is not valuable, but large reserves are a loss if there is not enough demand. I'm speaking for any resource in general.

  • russia basically her ecomony relies on resources for money so i think the countrie should sought her self out

  • What? Do you mean Ukraine?
