I played that when I was in Japan. It was worth the money and the time. It's so much fun.

The game is called Mobile Suit Gundam: Bonds of the Battlefield or Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senjou no Kizuna, it has a PSP port too.

You first need to pay about 300 円 for a card (with your player information on it), then pay 500 円 every time you want to play a couple of rounds. Expensive, but I can tell you, it's worth every 円.
