  • In our shop we do most of that with a spoke shave. Do you rasp the whole thing from when its rough cut?

  • I've used spoke shaves to carve necks before. Just personal preference is why I rasp the whole thing.

  • This is a good video. I have built a couple of Fender style guitars and I have used a product called microplane to carve the back profile. They are like a cheese grater for wood. They take of lots of material per stroke and leave a fairly smooth surface behind. If you turn them relative to the neck you can really control how much material you carve off. They're very nice.
