  • They just need a bone infection for them to react to .Then they could have a spine

  • Are they really vertebrates? I mean, they have to be if they are in chordata, right?

  • i think thats the catagory they put them in .

I think they are bacterially modified the same as tha riftia worm at the thermal vent looses its digestive tract.

  • @BlackRosePride why are you looking at sea squirts man are u crazy???? pop culture is so much better... especially than your face...

black rose pride what does that even mean??

  • it is nice to see people who possess a knowledge of things such as taxonomy. I admire you all, everybody else is too worried about gossip and pop culture, and too busy tweeting, as well as being on facebook.

  • @Urmum55 Not all the animals in Chordata are vertebrates. Some are invertebrates.

  • @Urmum55 not vertebrates, but chordata because they have the spinal cord, but not a spine as in cartilage/bone structural support. what distinguishes them is that non vertebrates structurally are bonded to their body cavity relying on it's hydrostatic support. true vertebrates just use the later evolved protective casing of the spinal cord to double as the main structural support.

  • they're apart of the subphylum urochordata however do not possess vertebrae, not all chordates possess vertebrae, hence why they aren't in the subphylum vertebrata.

  • They're still faster than sponges!

  • vertebrates are kind of a subset of phylum chordata, which includes sea squirts, lancelets and vertebrates. the sea squirts have the same 'backbone' that we have during embryonic development; it's called a notochord- just a firm rod along the dorsal side (back), and doesn't have vertebrae; these come later

  • I was reading this book called "spark" its about exercising (running especially) and its effects on the brain. In the book the author mentions these sea squirts use their brain for 12 hours after birth to find a shell and then proceed to eat their own brain. Is this documented anywhere?
