Nat'l Child Care Provider Honoree - Debra Walker

Debra Walker's career in child care is truly a labor of love. The mother of three children who required special care, Debra learned first hand the importance of meeting the needs of families with children born with disabilities. Patience, love and high expectations for children are what lead those in her care to success Debra has written grants and acquired funding promoting quality care for children with special needs in her county. She has partnered with local schools that offer special needs programs and has worked to prepare other child care providers for working and nurturing children with special needs. Her training covers basic child development and valuable information on a number of common learning disabilities and skills to work with challenging behaviors. Local early education departments decided her training and expertise was so important, it is licensed, accredited and credentialed by the Maryland State Department of Education. Debra Walker has filled a great need in community.
