I always found it exciting that among my city
you could find someone you´d never seen before.

Weltzeituhr

Schon immer fand ich es aufregend dass inmitten meiner Stadt
man einen Menschen finden würde, den man noch nie gesehen hat.
Man schrieb ihm einfach: „Lass uns treffen am Alex, an der Weltzeituhr!
Denn sie ist gar nicht schwer zu finden, zehn Schritte weg von Bahnhof nur,
zehn Schritte weg vom Bahnhof nur.

Früher wünschte ich mir oft, dass diese Uhr sich für mich dreht,
und im Gewimmel der Touristen, auch mal ein Fremder für mich steht,
mit dem ich Englisch reden würde und von dem ich viel erfahr´,
von seiner weit entfernten Heimat, die für mich unerreichbar war,
die für mich unerreichbar war.

Heute lauf öfter mal ich übern Alex, steig hier aus der Straßenbahn.
Und wie einst, ziehn die silbernen Planeten auf der Uhr ihre Bahn.
Und wie immer kann man darauf lesen, wie spät es in Havanna ist, in Ankara, in Denver und Madrid
in Beirut, Kapstadt, Bukarest, Mogabischu, Panama, Caracaz, Oslo und New York...


Früher durfte ich nicht reisen, heute habe ich kein Geld,
doch ich träume noch wie damals von der großen weiten Welt.
Lasse die Gedanken schweifen, wenn sich die bunten Zahlen drehn.
Würde gern in der Ferne wandern und hier nicht auf dem Alex stehn,
und hier nicht auf dem Alex stehen.

Zum Glück hat eins sich nicht verändert, die Weltzeituhr,
die Weltzeituhr.
