@kjay210 he still gets paid through song writing royalties. even though warners owns the rights to the recorded music on their label. every time his warner's albums sell or are played on the radio he still gets a cut because he wrote the the song. ecnirp and controversy music were set up by prince. so don't feel so sorry for the guy. most of his post warners (emancipated) albums are out of print. so he still relies on warners albums which still are in print and on itunes to make him money.
