The magic that is jazz and the glory of intuitive improv. come to light here, as four musicians who have never played this song together can manage to come together, work together, and make this gorgeous music together. Filmed at the 2007 Sacramento Jazz Jubilee (Memorial Day Weekend), Vince Bartels' Migrant Jazz Workers featured these four band members on "Tenderly," a lovely ballad by Walter Gross/Jack Lawrence: Russ Phillips (trombone), Eddie Higgins (piano), John Cocuzzi (vibes), and Jennifer Leitham (bass). I absolutely Love the luscious and Divine "experience" of this clip.

This is just one example of what magic can happen when four masters get together.

Out of the thousands of numbers that we all witness, there are always ones that transcend the ordinary. Here is one.
I was in the audience for this magical jazz moment with the people I love, and am very grateful that it was recorded for posterity. The interplay between Russ and John C. is beyond words.
RIP Haydn Higgins.
